Group Financial Controller, Marco Polo Hotels

Mr. Darren Wong has been in the hotel industry for almost 30 years and is currently the group financial controller of Marco Polo Hotel Group. During his career, he also worked for Mandarin Oriental and Shangri-la and has extensive and in-depth knowledge about the hotel industry.

Darren had also spent several years working in mainland China opening a new hotel. During this period and through the process, he acquired “China” experience which is very valuable both his career, as well as personal, development.

Other than his role as group financial controller, Darren is the vice-chairman, as well as the founding member of the Hotel Controllers and Accountants Association of Hong Kong (HCAA). Through his role in the HCAA, he actively contributes to the industry by conducting seminars, organizing social gathering and contributing to various HCAA initiatives. One of them is the compilation of a guide book on the uniform system of accounts for the hotel industry which is very well received.

After his graduation from the University of Alberta with distinctive results, Darren never stops learning. Now he has three master degrees in various disciplines: IT, corporate finance and management research. But his passion for learning makes him move on and he is now pursuing a doctorate which would be completed in two years.
