Group Financial Controller, Marco Polo Hotels


Mr. Darren Wong has been in the hotel industry for almost 30 years and is currently the group financial controller of Marco Polo Hotel Group. During his career, he also worked for Mandarin Oriental and Shangri-la and has extensive and in-depth knowledge about the hotel industry. Darren had also spent several years working in mainland China opening a new hotel. During this period and through the process, he acquired “China” experience which is very valuable both his career, as well as personal, development.

Other than his role as group financial controller, Darren is the vice-chairman, as well as the founding member of the Hotel Controllers and Accountants Association of Hong Kong (HCAA). Through his role in the HCAA, he actively contributes to the industry by conducting seminars, organizing social gathering and contributing to various HCAA initiatives. One of them is the compilation of a guide book on the uniform system of accounts for the hotel industry which is very well received.

After his graduation from the University of Alberta with distinctive results, Darren never stops learning. Now he has three master degrees in various disciplines: IT, corporate finance and management research. But his passion for learning makes him move on and he is now pursuing a doctorate which would be completed in two years.

Mr. Tim Cheung is the Director of Operations Analysis of Langham Hospitality Group (LHG) playing the role to seek for improvement in business and hotel operations. Prior to joining LHG, Tim held positions of Area Financial Controller, Project Financial Controller and senior position in Internal Audit Department in Shangri-La International Hotel Management Limited. He was the Deputy Vice President – Finance of Hotel Division in Sun Hung Kai Property Limited. He worked with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company for 15 years as Area Director of Finance for Asia Pacific Region. His previous experiences also include 14 years with The Regent Hotel Hong Kong, Sheraton Hotel Hong Kong and he started his hotel career with The Ambassador Hotel in 1971. Mr. Cheung is holder of LLB (Hons) laws degree and BBA (Acct) degree. He conducted ad hoc teachings in university and education institutes in Hong Kong.

Mr. Ho Voi Sam Andy
Financial Controller, Novotel Century Hong Kong


Mr. Ho Vai Sam Andy possesses more than 30 years’ solid experience in financial management and accounting within the hotel industry. Mr. Ho is now the Financial Controller of Novotel Century Hong Kong who is responsible for the planning, directing and controlling of all accounting activities with the compliance of standard accounting systems and procedures. Mr. Ho joined Century International Hotels as Assistant Financial Controller for the pre-opening of Century Hong Kong Hotel in 1991 by setting up the hotel’s new policies and procedures. Since then he has become the Area Controller and Assistant Vice President – Finance of the group to travel extensively to People’s Republic of China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Philippines for overseeing the properties in Asia. He primarily worked with Hyatt International and Furama groups in Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Saipan where he has gained comprehensive experience in the preparation and analysis of budgets and financial reports, accounting and auditing, development and implementation of accounting systems and computerization. Mr Ho is currently the member of CMA (Australia) IPA and fellow member of Hotel Controllers and Accountant Association of Hong Kong.

Mr. Tommy Kwan Sai Kwong
Financial Controller, Island Shangri-La


Mr. Tommy Kwan is currently the Financial Controller of Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong. He has been working with the Shangri-La Group since 1996. Previously, he was the Area Financial Controller of Shangri-La based in Shanghai since 2004 until he moved back to his home town - Hong Kong in late 2009. Mr Kwan has over 30 years’ experience in hospitality industry. He has worked in Hong Kong, Macau, Saipan and PR China and held senior financial positions in various luxury hotel groups. Mr Kwan was the founder committee member of Shanghai Hotel Financial & Professional Association and was appointed as the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the association during the period of 2008 & 2009 and 2002 & 2004 respectively. He is the member of the Institute of Public Accountants and the member of the Institute of Certified Management Accountants in Australia. He also obtained the designations as Certified Hotel Administrator from American Hotel & Motel Association and Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive from Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals in the United States.

Financial Controller, AMC of Shangri La Hotels and Resorts


Currently the Financial Controller at AMC of Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Mr. Patric Lee started his career at Regal Meridien Hotel and has been serving various renowned hotel groups in the field since 1980's.

Apart from being a seasoned practitioner in the hospitality industry, Mr. Lee is also passionate to participate in community and public services. Mr. Lee is the President of the Rotary Club of Hong Kong Harbour 2014/15; Secretary in the EXCOM of the Hotel Controllers and Accountants Association in Hong Kong (HCAA); Member of the EXCOM of Lingnan University Accountancy Education Foundation (LUAEF); Honorary Advisor as well as Vice Chairman of the Committee of the Hospitality Management and Tourism of CMA Australia Hong Kong Branch.

Mr. Lee holds a Master in Accountancy from Lingnan University. He is also a member of the Institute of Public Accountants, Australia; member of CMA Australia as well as a Fellow Member of the IT Accountants Association in Hong Kong.

Mr. Michael Mak, CMA, IPA is the Financial Controller of the Harbour Plaza Metropolis and has over 25 years hotel experience in Hong Kong, Beijing and Macau. Before joining Harbour Plaza Group, he was with New World Group, Mandarin Group and Langham Group. Currently is the Executive Committee Member of the Hotel Controllers & Accountant Association and also Education & Technical Sub Committee in the association.

Ms. Wang Chi Nam, Frances is holding two positions at Regal Hotels International since 2009. The Group Director of Sales – Business Development at corporate level and Executive Assistant Manager – Sales & Marketing of Regal Kowloon Hotel.

Prior to joining the Regal Group, Ms. Wang has over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry specialized in sales & marketing, strategic planning, operations and control. Ms. Wang received her Master degree of Business Administration from the University of Birmingham, UK in 2012 and Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, USA.
